Fraser Surrey Docks Greets M.V. Peony on Maiden Voyage

December 18, 2001: On December 12, 2001, a ceremony was held aboard the M.V. Peony to celebrate the vessel’s maiden voyage to Fraser Surrey Docks, a general cargo terminal on the Fraser River. Plaques were presented to Captain Tin Maung Win by Fraser Surrey Docks’ Mike Cornish and Fraser River Port’s Ed Kargl. Also in attendance was Igor Kazakov from Nortec Marine Agencies, representing the Japanese owners, Tairasu Shipping.

This new bulk vessel, specially designed to carry grain, stopped at Fraser Surrey Docks to load cargo on the first leg of a tramp service. Additional cargo will be picked up at Port of Tacoma before the vessel sets off for Japan with its crew of 22.

M.V. Peony is 170 metres long and was constructed by Japan’s Shikoku Dockyard Co. A sister vessel is currently under construction and will be launched in the spring of 2002.
