July 2005: The Fraser River Port Authority is donating a performance by the Royal Westminster Regiment Band to entertain the crowds at FraserFest 2005. The performance will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2005 from 5 – 6 pm, on the entertainment stage located on the New Westminster Quay in front of the Royal City Star Casino Boat.
The band, which has delighted crowds at FraserFest in the past, is part of a local Canadian Forces Primary Reserve infantry regiment. Both organizations share a long history in New Westminster. The Royal Westminster Regiment traces its history in the region back to the 1850s, while the Port Authority was created in 1913 to facilitate trade and waterborne commerce along the main arm of the Fraser River.
The Fraser River Port Authority is sponsoring other family-oriented events during the popular weekend celebration of the Fraser River in New Westminster, including paddlewheeler harbour tours, children’s boat building workshops, fish crafts, a scavenger hunt, and displays. Their patrol vessel, Port Fraser, will also lead the workboat parade that wraps up the weekend celebrations on Sunday afternoon.
