New VP of Operations Appointed at Fraser River Port

April 18, 2002: Ms. Pat Weber has been appointed Vice President, Operations, by the Fraser River Port Authority. Ms. Weber has been Acting Vice President, Operations, since 2001 and Manager, Environmental Services, since 1990. Prior to joining the Port Authority in 1989 she worked for Rivtow Straits Limited, a marine towing company, managing a portfolio of 500 properties.

The Port Authority’s Operations Department has responsibilities for asset management, harbour patrol, channel maintenance, and environmental services, all of which contribute to the facilitation of marine trade on the lower Fraser. With over twenty years of experience on the Fraser River, she is eager to apply her own stamp to a position traditionally filled by mariners.

“I believe in customer service, such as working with the stakeholders on their environmental issues in ways that help their businesses succeed. They are the ones generating the business that keeps this port growing and expanding.”

Ms. Weber represents the Port Authority on a variety of Committees at the Fraser River Estuary Management Program and the Association of Canadian Port Authorities. She has studied environmental law and management systems, business law, and economics at the University of British Columbia and the BC Institute of Technology, among other institutions.

The Fraser River Port Authority administers Fraser River Port, and has jurisdiction over the main arm of the lower Fraser River, from Kanaka Creek and Pitt Lake to the mouth at Sandheads. More than 22 million tonnes of cargo move through Fraser River Port terminals each year, creating more than 10,000 local jobs.
